1. Prepare and Check Your Summit Equipment the Night Before

In Mount Ararat tours, summit climbs usually start around midnight. Organizing everything you need before the summit climb will prevent you from stressing. You will not have to rush when you wake up and will be more comfortable. This will prevent you from stressing too much and will reduce the possibility of forgetting something important. Before the summit climb of Mount Ararat, lay out and check all your clothes. Get your snacks and water from the camp manager and pack them. Organize your belongings as you did throughout the trip and remember their places so that you can easily remember where everything is. Knowing which pocket contains the equipment you need when hiking in the dark will make your job easier.

2. Take as Many Snacks as You Need

Due to the temperatures on Mount Ararat trips, some types of snacks can melt and spoil and become almost inedible. Drinks and fruits can freeze and harden. Sometimes an apple or chocolate can harden like a rock. Therefore, prefer snacks such as nuts, dried fruits, cookies, which are less affected by the cold.

3. Avoid Caffeine Before Mount Ararat Summit Climb

Since Mount Ararat Summit Climb starts before sunrise in the morning, it is very important for climbers to go to bed early. For a better rest, it is best to sleep around 6-7 in the evening. As you know, it is difficult to fall asleep due to the excitement of the summit day, the departure time, and the height of the second camp. Do not use caffeine on this day and completely stay away from other stimulants and try to sleep. Even 3-4 hours of sleep will give you more energy and help you have an enjoyable Mount Ararat adventure. Don’t worry if you can’t sleep because of the height and excitement, there are many people who reach the summit without sleeping at all.

4. Tie Your Shoelaces Softly

One of the mistakes people make when trying to keep their feet warm is tying their shoes too tightly; they think that this will keep their feet warm and trap the warm air inside the shoe, preventing cold air from entering the shoe. This is a common misconception. Tying your shoes tightly above your ankles will slow down the blood flow in your feet, causing your toes to get cold. Do not tie your shoes tightly and too tightly.

5. Wear Your Clothing Properly

On the night of the Ağrı Mountain summit climb, climbers wear four to six layers on their upper body.

– inner layer

– soft shell/fleece jacket

– hard shell/waterproof jacket

– down jacket

In alpine mountaineering, the layers of clothing should be like this. This is a standard practice in alpine mountaineering, when the weather gets cold on the Ağrı Mountain hikes and during breaks, the down jacket is worn over the hard shell.

6. Use Trekking Poles

Using trekking poles while climbing Mount Ararat provides advantages in maintaining balance and preventing falls. They provide extra support, help maintain balance and reduce the risk of falling. Trekking poles work your arms and distribute the workload across your body. They reduce the strain on your legs, joints and feet during descents after climbing. We strongly recommend that you use trekking poles at every stage of the Mount Ararat trip. They are especially useful on the way to the summit and especially when descending.

7. Using Crampons During Mount Ararat Summit Climbing

In the summer months, crampons are a must on the parts of the Mount Ararat summit route above 4750 meters, especially in snow-covered areas or on glaciers. During seasonal transitions such as May – June and late September – October, it is absolutely necessary for safety on slippery surfaces since the snow does not melt.

8. Tighten the Laces Before Descending

On the return to the summit of Ağrı Mountain, the laces of the shoes should be tied tightly and care should be taken to ensure that the strings do not protrude from the shoes. If the shoelaces are not tied tightly, the toes will constantly hit the shoes, which can cause the toenails to bruise and separate from the foot. If the shoelaces are not tied tightly, it can cause the feet to get stuck together.
